It was a great couple of days for a yard sale. Considering there was a big thunder storm and rain the night before as we all hauled our sale items to my grandparents house where it would be held to sort and price them, the weather on Sunday & Monday was surprisingly clear, sunny and scorching HOT, as if it was mid-August instead of April! We'd been planning it and gathering sale items for several months, but the days finally came.
Both my parents and grandparents contributed tons of items for the sale, as did we. Some of which included our table and chairs (hardly used because it doesn't fit in our tiny house anyway), one of my mom's old table & chairs, plenty of books and videos, cds, games, puzzles, toys, electronics, clothes, bedding, and a large assortment of kitchen items (appliances, dishes, etc). My grandparents even donated a set of matching sofas to sell (which they did)! My dad advertised the sale in two papers for 3 days so we would have customers, and did we ever!
Sunday was a huge success! Mikey and my brother Jordan were there helping my grandparents, dad and me. Jordan was the cashier, and boy did he ever rake in the cash well! We earned over $280 on Sunday. There were SO many people there! I made a bunch of cookies and sold bags of them for 25 cents each. My gramma made ice tea to sell with them, and helped us all out a lot by providing us with great lunches both days!
On Monday we learned our lesson that weekdays are NOT good days to hold yard sales. Very few people came, but we did, however, manage to push our previous day's success to the $300. mark making a grand total of $20 on Monday. Hahaha! Plus, we got rid of a lot more items that we didn't exactly want to be stuck with, which was fantastic. We decided to pack up early on Monday, but felt it was worth it.
At the end of the day, my grampa gave us his mother's old table which folds down in two places. It fits perfectly in small places just like our little kitchen! He told me she would be "pleased as punch" that he had passed it down to his grandchildren to be put to good use, and I couldn't be more pleased myself. Not only do we have a kitchen table again, but this one actually belonged to my great-grandmother! I have a family heirloom! :)
So, I consider our sale a great success. It was actually pretty fun! Thank you, all of you who contributed items or donated your precious time (and driveway) to help out (including my mom who stayed home and kept the dogs out of our hair for 2 days)! Mike & I truly appreciate the efforts from everyone, more than we can express!
PS. We are already planning to have a second sale around September! ;-)
